I just wanted to share a link that I think is really neat. It's a web store that I've bought things from several times... I like that they have reasonable prices, and they have some great books. It's a Montessori-oriented store called For Small Hands. (NOTE:I am not necessarily advocating Montessori as a teaching method... I have one daughter who did very well in that setting, but another child who doesn't fit with it... it is my belief that no one teaching style is going to work for all children. That aside, I did want to share what I think is a good resource for procuring nice tools, often made of natural materials, to encourage children to happily and easily participate in the domestic part of pagan practice.)
I just bought this book called Nature's Playground that I think looks like pure pagan fun! You might even be able to find the book cheaper on Amazon, but I chose to buy it through For Small Hands in support of the things they provide. Montessori encourages skill development in many fabulous ways (with some REALLY fun looking projects that you can easily replicate with things you have on hand)... my favorite thing is that they encourage children to participate in housekeeping because: a) kids are interested in doing what mom and dad do, b) they're capable, c) they are part of a family that must work together, and d) my own opinion is that it encourages the the same feeling that your home is a sacred space that many pagans embrace. The perfect encouragement for children is having tools that fit them (I love the brooms and laundry baskets and laundry line clips... many of which are made out of natural materials).
This book looks fantastic. Let us know what you think.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to be adding this to my book list too!
