After reading the Bedtime blog post, I thought I would share what I do for my son and I. Both of us are vivid dreamers. ( Or at least I assume he is with the way he calls out at night and such.) I dream so vividly, I have been known to mistake dreams for memories. So when I have a nightmare, it is truly horrific. This method is simple and seems to work whether you believe in it or not.
In college, I used to collect gem lore. I even had a column in the college newspaper were I would post my findings. In the course of my research, I had stumbled across a belief common to many cultures that amethysts have the ability to prevent nightmares. Not long after getting married, I became Pagan. I would occasionally wake up my husband sobbing over a nightmare. I mentioned this belief to my husband who told me that it couldn't hurt to try it. Luckily enough, it worked. So I've had an amethyst cluster in my bedroom ever since.
When my son started having "scary" dreams, I put a cluster in his room too. He doesn't wake me up due to nightmares any more. Whenever he or I do start having nightmares again, it means the amethyst in that room has gotten dusty and needs to be cleaned. This simple solution makes for a happier mama and child.
To tie this in with your spiritual path, you could always "cleanse" the amethyst cluster and attach a peaceful dreams prayer or spell to it. Placed on a window ledge, the sun and moon could keep the crystal charged.
I hope this helps others as it has helped us. Sweet Dreams!
This is pure genius! I'm going to do this... my 4 year old has bad dreams often... and I've tried so many things to calm her dreams. She loves amethyst, so I bet I could get her to help me choose one (I have several she could use), we could clean it together, and choose a place in her room for it. I LOVE this! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is both a beautiful and clever tip! and it deals with a problem most parents face at some time or another - great post!
