With the aim in mind of creating some daily rhythms and giving my children a touch stone of family values, I wrote some simple prayers to say with my children. Both boys, but especially my 7 year old have responded so well to this - my eldest asking for our 'poems' before I initiate them myself.
Here is our morning prayer:
Dawn has brought us a new day
To laugh and love, learn and play.
We greet the day with a smiling face
and in our hearts we give our thanks.
May the gods our our people and the gods of this land
protect and guide our heads, hearts and hands.
a bed time prayer:
Night is here, darkness fills the sky
but tomorrow morning the sun will rise.
The circle of life holds us safe,
Each plant and creature has its place.
Tonight I lay my head to rest
So that tomorrow I may be my best.
May the gods of our people and the gods of this land
Guide and protect my head, heart and hands.
This is perfect for cuddle time with the children, and it gently reinforces those things which our family values. How about you, do you say any daily prayers with your children?
Those are beautiful prayers, Nellie.
ReplyDeleteHello Beautiful Lady, we had such a nice time at your "Many Hands" home. This is the prayer blessing that we say over our kids ever night.
ReplyDelete"May the Lord bless you and keep you,
May He make His face to shine upon you
and be gracious to you.
May He lift up His countenance upon you
and give you peace.
and may you server the Lord forever."
Thanks for sharing and letting me share.

ReplyDeleteThis is the prayer I say before going to sleep each night, the one I will one day teach my children:
ReplyDeleteAs I lay snuggled in my bed,
Pillow tucked beneath my head,
Maiden, bring me joyous dreams,
Mother, bring me peace serene,
Wisest Crone, watch over me,
Until the light of dawn I see,
So mote it be.
